SARASOTA -- The State College of Florida Manatees baseball team has a date with the Baltimore Orioles for the second year in a row.
The exhibition game is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 29 at Sarasota's Ed Smith Stadium, the Orioles' Grapefruit League home.
Admission is free, but there are $5 reserved tickets for seats behind the SCF dugout on the third base side. Proceeds benefit SCF athletics.
Last year, SCF picked up a game against the O's after the Manatees no longer were scheduled to face Bradenton's spring tenants, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Manatees earned a 2-1 victory in an eight-inning contest.
The victory, though came with some modified parameters.
Baltimore pitchers threw against Baltimore hitters, while SCF players fielded. And the Birds used one of their catchers in the Manatees' lineup to get some extra at-bats.
It was the final game for Baltimore at Ed Smith Stadium, before the Orioles traveled north in preparation for the 2012 season.
The O's enjoyed a revival last season. Baltimore won an American League wild-card spot, earning a playoff berth for the first time since the 1990s.
SCF, then known as Manatee Community College, made national headlines in 2009 when it defeated the Pirates 6-4 in a game that featured mostly minor-leaguers.
Pittsburgh has replaced the Manatees on their spring schedule with an intrasquad game, called the Black and Gold Game. That game will take place at noon Feb. 22 and will serve as the first event in the renovated McKechnie Field. Tickets are $8, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Manatee Education Foundation.
